We've updated Place Forecast with dwellings for the Census year 2021. This is the start of our dwelling and housing forecast, which will inform our population forecast.
As you can see in the charts above, we report on occupied and unoccupied private dwellings and non-private dwellings for the whole LGA and all small area. As always, you can compare these numbers across small areas.
These are the initial estimates we will project beyond 2021 with the help of building approval data.
"Pie charts?! Seriously?" you might have gasped. If you did, we considered you. Data reports have famously misused pie charts in the past, up to a point where "…most numerate folk will avoid pie charts.". But, we argue, if there are only two categories, then it's okay to make use of pie charts sparingly, right?
If that's still a no to pie charts for you, then we can put your mind at ease by reframing the problem: These are not pie charts, but Pac-Man charts 😉

We're curious and would like to ask you:
What do you think about our pie charts?

We're always eager to hear what you think. If you have more thoughts on our use of pie charts—or Pac-Man charts—please don't hesitate to share them with us! Whether you love them, hate them, or have ideas for other creative data visualisations, we want to know. Simply reply to this email.
