Place Forecast Update #3: Estimated In-migration Data

← All product updates · 12 Apr 2024 · View in Mailchimp

We’re in the middle of upgrading our system to deal with migration data. We’ve completed the first step by providing a dataset for the estimated in-migration. This data is released for every Census, so it dates back to 2021. As with all data that we process in our system, we downscale all the in-migration data to mesh blocks, and then re-aggregate it to all small areas.

Btw, did you know that there’s a difference between in-migration and immigration? Immigration is the number of people coming into a country. It’s an international movement. But in-migration is the number of people coming into an area from another area within the same country. It’s a national movement. And the set of in-migration data contains all immigration data. Learning's good fun, yeah?

A week ago, our second client signed up for Place Forecast. and we’re so happy about it 🎉  With two clients signed up now, we’re quite busy getting all our ducks in a row. We’ve ordered data from the ABS, helped our clients define their small areas, and we’re getting our back-office in shape to process payment. Exciting times!
