Place Forecast Update #2: More Historical Data Faster

← All product updates · 22 Mar 2024 · View in Mailchimp

On top of our historic population data¹, we can upload, display, and work with historical birth and death data in our forecasts now. Jump-off years, the demarcation line of the present between the past (historical data) and the future (projected data), is shown in our component pages for birthdeathfertility rate and mortality rate¹.

The amount of additional data is massive. For example, for each historical year of death data for our Hobsons Bay showcase, we amass a further 234,780 units of input data. That slowed our systems down a bit, which we countered by performance tuning for about 60 pages. Not only are those pages super fast now, but we have established methods to address similar bottlenecks effectively in the future.

We are thrilled to announce that, as of last week, our first client signed up with Place Forecast.

They are one of the growth areas here in Victoria. As you can imagine, we are over the moon about this news and immediately got to work on their forecast. The first steps involved ordering data from the ABS, and this week, we met briefly with our client to discuss small areas and paperwork. We are determined to create a great onboarding experience for our client, and we hope to announce more details soon. Watch this space.
