Place Forecast Update #1: Historical Population Data

← All product updates · 5 Mar 2024 · View in Mailchimp

We can upload, display, and work with historical population data in our forecasts now. Previously, we worked with the latest year — 2021 — for which population data was available. That was enough to calculate our births and deaths projections. However, that’s not enough for our migration calculations, so we needed historical data.

As you can see in the image above, downloaded straight from Place Forecast, we have data for 2020 in addition to the jump-off year. Also, we’re visualising the jump-off year now, which is the year from which the projections “jump-off” into the demographic future.

Wow, isn’t that exciting?! This is our first product update for Place Forecast, with hopefully many more to come. Even though we’ve been working on Place Forecast for months, we haven’t got around to sending one out yet. One has to start somewhere, right? We hope you enjoy it.
