Small Area Explained Demographic Concept

A small area is a custom zone defined for each forecast. Small areas are not part of the ABS standard geography. They are drawn to match how the council or client thinks about their region — for example, by suburb, precinct, or growth corridor.

Each small area is built from mesh blocks. Place Forecast links mesh blocks to small areas based on where their boundaries overlap. This means population data at the mesh block level can be rolled up to match the custom zones.
