Sex and gender explained Place Forecast Concept

Referenced by

The Census records sex as female or male only. It does not record gender identity. So sex and gender are not the same thing here, and these figures cannot answer questions about gender.

This shapes what some markers can show.

On the Children ever born marker, the question is asked only of people the Census records as female. Trans men and non-binary people who have given birth may not be counted, or may be folded into a female count that does not name them. So the figure can undercount who has had children.

On the Same-sex couples marker, each couple is coded from the two recorded sexes. Trans, non-binary, and intersex people in couples are not shown as their own group.

Saying more about gender diversity would need a different data source.
