Natural change is the number of births minus the number of deaths. The natural change report shows births, deaths, and the resulting natural change over time. A positive number means more people were born than died, adding to the population.

Natural change is one part of annual population change. The other part is net migration, which is in-migration minus out-migration. Together, natural change and net migration explain why a population grows or shrinks.
