A mesh block is the smallest geographic unit defined by the Australian Bureau of Statistics. Each mesh block covers about 30 to 60 dwellings. The ABS also records dwelling counts at this level, which Place Forecast uses as the base for its dwelling projections.
Mesh blocks are the building blocks for all areas in Place Forecast. Every small area is made up of mesh blocks. When Place Forecast links a mesh block to a small area, all data for that mesh block flows into the small area's totals. This process is called tessellation.
