The areas page shows the boundaries used by this forecast. A map shows each area type as a layer that can be turned on or off.
Place Forecast works with six area types. The local government area is the council boundary. Small areas are custom zones set up for each forecast. Statistical area 2 and statistical area 1 are standard ABS regions. Mesh blocks are the smallest ABS units. They are the building blocks for all other areas. The state or territory layer gives wider context.
Each area is built from mesh blocks. Place Forecast links mesh blocks to larger areas through a process called tessellation. Every person in a mesh block ends up in one small area, one SA1, one SA2, and one LGA.
